RARE BOOK ROOM NAMED FOR EMERITUS BOARD MEMBER

CHARLESTON, S.C., Nov. 25 - On Friday, November 21, The Citadel honored the late Colonel William "Buddy" F. Prioleau, Jr. in a dedication ceremony of the Daniel Library's new reading room.

     Formerly the Rare Book Room, the newly renovated William F. Prioleau,Jr. Reading Room is technologically up-to-date, yet conducive to reading, view- ing, listening, and studying.

     Prioleau, a member of the class of 1943, is remembered for giving generously of his energy, creativity, and devotion in a lifetime of service to The Citadel. He was a member of the Citadel Alumni Association and The Citadel Board of Visitors (1969 to 1991, emeritus 1994 to 1997), and in 1981 he was Man of the Year.

     Lieutenant Colonel Angie LeClercq, director of Daniel Library, gave opening remarks followed by Major General James Alexander Grimsley, Jr., presi- dent emeritus, who painted a colorful portrait of Prioleau's character. The William F. Prioleau, Jr. Reading Room was given by Colonel Thomas C. Vandiver, class of 1929, to honor and remember Prioleau for his outstanding leadership and vision. Vandiver, ninety, attended the ceremony and had guests laughing with humorous tales about Prioleau.
