CHARLESTON, S.C., Nov. 11-The Citadel Department of Education will hold its 19th Annual Reading Conference December 4-5 in Mark Clark Hall on The Citadel campus.

     Registration will begin on December 4 from 6:00 to 6:45 and will be followed by a dinner and speech which will begin the conference. Registration on Friday begins at 8:00 a.m. and continues throughout the day. Friday's itinerary includes three general session meetings, each followed by a choice of four lectures; the conference will end after a 4:45 reception to recognize Charleston County's Distinguished Reading Teachers.

     The conference will feature children's authors, Lynn Floyd Wright (The Prison Bird and Flick, The Hero) and Christine Swager (Black Crows and White Cockades). Topics will include poetry in the classroom, portfolio evaluation for middle school readers, literacy in kindergarten, aiding families of children who have reading disabilities, and bridging reading and writing education.
