CHARLESTON, SC (Nov. 14)--The Association of Citadel Men, one of the most active alumni organizations nationwide, elected Congressman Stephen E. Buyer of Monticello, Indiana, its Man of the Year for 1995 at the Association's annual meeting during Homecoming.
Buyer represents Indiana's 5th Congressional District and currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Veterans Affairs Committee. He is a 1980 graduate of The Citadel and a 1983 graduate of Valparaiso University Law School.
The Association's Man of the Year award is presented annually to the alumnus who has demonstrated a significant contribution to The Citadel through personal sacrifice and has unselfishly given his time and talent on behalf of the college. In addition to choosing its Man of the Year, the Alumni Association elected Tom Mikell of Beaufort as its new president. Mikell is a 1964 graduate
of The Citadel and a 1972 graduate of USC Law School. He has served as a
senior member of Harvey, Battey, Macloskie and Bethea, PA, and as Chairman of
the Lowcountry Council of Governments. The Association also named Hampton J.
Parker (YT53) of Waycross, Georgia, its president-elect.
