A Mother’s Day story at The Citadel Graduate College

Two peas in a pod, with a bun in the oven at Class of 2014 commencement

Like mother, like daughter? The saying holds true in the case of Nancy Bright, a member of The Citadel Graduate College Class of 2014. She’s walking to accept her  master’s degree while expecting a baby girl, just as her mother did when she earned her master’s degree from The Citadel Graduate College almost 40 years ago.

Bright’s baby is expected in October of this year. Because Bright is a legacy graduate, she will be accepting her diploma from her mother, Cassandra Watkins Bradham, The Citadel Graduate College Class of 1976.

“Traditions are a big part of our family and I’m excited my mom will be there to present my diploma,” said Bright. “When my mom graduated from The Citadel Graduate College with her Master’s degree in the summer of 1976  she was expecting me. Now, I am graduating with my second Master’s degree, and I am expecting a baby girl. You may say this is the third graduation I’ve experienced at The Citadel Graduate College.”

Bright has earned a Masters of Science in Project Management. She was also a member of the graduate college’s Class of 2005 when she obtained a Masters of Arts in Biology.

“When Nancy earned her first Master’s degree almost a decade ago, I wasn’t able to present her diploma. Now I look forward to presenting Nancy with her second Master’s degree from The Citadel – and to seeing my granddaughter in the fall. What a great way to celebrate all of Nancy’s hard work,” said Watkins Bradham.

The Citadel Graduate College has seven legacy graduates, listed below. The South Carolina Corps of Cadets has 52 legacy graduates this year. The Citadel Graduate College and the South Carolina Corps of Cadets have a combined 872 Class of 2014 graduates.
