Dr. Elba Andrade

Born in Chile, Dr. Elba Andrade holds degrees in History and Spanish American Literature. She receives her Ph.D. from University of California Irvine, and her B.A. from Universidad de Chile in Santiago. She was on the faculty of Monterey Institute of International Studies before coming to The Citadel.

Dr. Andrade has written several articles on Contemporary Latin American Theatre and published three books. She is the co-author of the first anthology on Women Playwrights in Latin America. Her latest book is an interdisciplinary study of religious performances from the south of Chile, and her current manuscript entitled Myth, Play and Magic. Cultural Theatricalities of Chiloé's Island examines indigenous ceremonies applying theoretical principles of Theatrical Anthropology.

She is serving as a Reader of Gestos: teoría y práctica del teatro hispánico since 1986.
