Forum debates the role of human rights in U.S. military operations

The Citadel Symposium on Military Legitimacy and Leadership will host a forum on the role of human rights in U.S. Military Operations.

Lt. Col. Kevin Govern is the keynote speaker. An assistant professor of law at the U.S. Military Academy, he will give a talk entitled “Human Rights and Legitimacy in Military Missions.” The forum is scheduled from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Thursday Oct. 27, in Duckett Hall Auditorium on The Citadel campus.

The speech is open to faculty, staff and students only.

The forum panelists will include former U.S. military officers as well as Citadel faculty with expertise in the area of international law and the military aspects of national security.

The annual Citadel Symposium on Military Legitimacy and Leadership was established in October 2005 to address and deepen debate among cadets on legal and moral issues in military strategy and how they relate to mission success or failure in national security and foreign policies.
