Master of Arts in Social Science / Focus on Leadership Studies

Welcome to one of The Citadel’s newest programs: Master of Arts in Social Science with a focus on leadership studies.

The program is comprised of:

  • Eight leadership-specific courses (five of which are completed in the Graduate Certificate in Leadership program)
  • Two foundational human behavior courses
  • Two research methods courses that prepare the student to produce a meaningful leadership capstone project to culminate their program.

The twelve courses have been designed for online delivery, pending approval. Currently, students are able to take six of the courses either online or in the classroom.

In keeping with The Citadel's mission to produce principled leaders, these leadership program courses are taught from the perspective of Principled Leadership, which is defined as influencing others to accomplish organizational goals "while adhering to the organization’s core values." LDRS 710, entitled Ethics, Values, & Principled Leadership pays particular attention to this principled leadership ideal.

Unlike traditional programs featuring distinct courses, The Citadel program offers a unique integration among the eight leadership-specific courses.
