Freelance writing course, digital workshop for teachers
The Lowcountry Writing Project at The Citadel will offer a three-graduate-hour course in freelance writing and a two-day workshop on digital imaging for area teachers.
The freelance writing course, offered as professional development for teachers in all disciplines and grade levels, will focus on understanding the market, pitching stories, and writing marketable pieces. In addition to learning how to publish their own work, participants will pick up tips they can share in their K-12 classrooms with students writing for different purposes and different audiences.
Sessions will meet three times each month, twice in the evening from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at The Citadel and once on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at different locations around town. Dates are Sept 19, 23 and 26; Oct 10, 14 and 17; and Nov 9, 11 and 14. The cost is $250. Registration deadline is Sept. 15.
The digital imaging workshop will meet Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bond Hall Room 251 at The Citadel. Participants will learn the basic of digital photography, plus how to use digital images in print documents and PowerPoint presentations. The cost is $300 and includes a Sony Mavica digital camera. Registration deadline is Sept. 8.
