Graduates have strong family ties to institution

Commencement exercises for The Citadel Graduate College will take place at 5 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011, in McAlister Field House.  Among the 336 students graduating are 15 legacies—students who have a familial tie to Citadel alumni.  These student legacies have been granted permission by the Board to Visitors to have their alumni family members present them with their diplomas.

This year there are some unusual presentations taking place.  Christopher Leggett, who graduated from the Corps of Cadets in 2007, will present his mother Deborah Garrison with her master’s degree.  William Anderson Sr. who graduated from CGC will present his great-grandson John Hoff with his degree.  And Benjamin Mimms III, who graduated from the Corps of Cadets in 1970, will present his son John with his degree from the Corps of Cadets and his daughter Courtenay with her master’s degree from CGC.

There are nine other fathers presenting diplomas to their CGC children—two of whom are from the Corps of Cadets Class of 1968—as well as one mother and one grandfather.

This year’s CGC legacies are:
