Leadership Forum announces March speaker

The CEO of the company that pioneered facial recognition technology in the driver's license and secure document markets will visit The Citadel in March.

Joanna Lau, CEO of Lau Technologies, an executive consulting and investment firm with expertise in the defense and security industries, will discuss "Transformational Leadership" during the March 14 Leaders on Leadership: The Citadel Business School Leadership Forum.

Created in 2002, the forum focuses on leadership and ethics in the lives of businesses and organizations. The event begins at 5:45 p.m. in Duckett Hall Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Lau founded Lau Technologies in 1990 to help build mid-range businesses dealing with the federal government. Lau Technologies introduced facial recognition technology into the driver's license and secure document markets in 1995, and subsequently acquired Viisage Technology in 1996. In 2001, Lau Technologies sold its defense contracting business, Lau Defense Systems, which delivered state of the art products to the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.

Because of Lau's leadership, Lau Technologies has earned numerous awards and recognition from the U.S. Army, Prime Contractors and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Today, she is focused solely on providing debt and equity financing and consulting to mid-range companies.

Lau has received numerous business and civic awards including the NDIA Small Business award, Mass High Tech All Star Award and the National Entrepreneur of the Year Award sponsored by Inc. Magazine and Ernst & Young, LLP.

Lau is on the Board of Directors of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, is a director of the National Defense Industrial Association and serves on several other bards. She is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, the Committee of 200, and the International Forum.
