Message from the Executive Director

My appointment to the Krause Center fulfills a lifelong passion and commitment to cadet leadership development at my alma mater. I am deeply grateful to my three predecessors for their dedicated efforts that laid the foundation for the implementation of the pieces of a four-year leader development model that includes the academic curriculum, the Commandant's training program, and experiential opportunities across the spectrum of The Citadel Experience. There is a renewed dedication on campus to leader development that is now touching every area of the College. It is evidenced by the increased emphasis the College places on leader development; the number of faculty and staff who are personally involved with teaching or facilitating classes from CIT 101 through all four years of the academic curriculum, to the newly developed Leaders 311 - Junior Ethics Enrichment Experience and Leaders 411 - The Senior Leadership Integration Seminar. Additional indications of this development include the genuine outpouring of enthusiasm of cadets who volunteer for service learning programs because they understand that leaders serve others; the number of alumni classes that are in the process of earmarking major portions of their reunion campaign gifts for leadership programs; the generous allocation of The Citadel Alumni Association's annual gift to the College for the Krause Center; and the number of individual donors and corporations who provide substantial resources to our leadership programs and who want to partner with our brand.

Over the past nine years, the vision of MajGen John Grinalds, USMC, (Retired), Lt Gen John W. Rosa, USAF, (Retired), President, The Citadel, and Gay and Bill Krause has become a reality. I am excited to be a key player in carrying that vision forward to a place where principled leadership is valued and expected both on and off The Citadel campus.

JOSEPH W. TREZ
COL, US Army (Retired)
