Cadet brings home Sigma Delta Pi Scholarship
Cadet Noah Koubenec, who recently was awarded a Truman Scholarship, received another prestigious scholarship. The junior cadet from Pilot Mountain, N.C., was one of only 22 recipients nationwide for the Sigma Delta Pi Scholarship for study abroad in Latin America.
Sigma Delta Pi is the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society. Koubenec, a political science and Spanish major, is currently the president of The Citadel chapter of Sigma Delta Pi. He will study at the Academia Latinoamericana for four weeks this summer in Quito, Ecuador.
“Sigma Delta Pi’s national scholarship program is extremely competitive with 370 colleges and universities nationwide whose student members are eligible to apply annually for approximately 30 awards,” said Col. Mark Del Mastro, chair of the department of Modern Languages and co-advisor to student chapter of Sigma Delta Pi. “It has been several years since The Citadel last boasted a Sigma Delta Pi scholarship winner, but Noah Koubenec’s award this year is testimony not only to this young man’s achievements but also to the quality of our Spanish program and its faculty. We are indeed extremely proud of Noah.”
