HESS professor Josey Templeton honored
Josey H. Templeton, professor of physical education at The Citadel, is the 2008 winner of the Honor Award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
Templeton was recognized for her distinguished professional career in more than one state and for her service as state AHPERD president in Mississippi and South Carolina, as the president of Southern District and currently as the Southern District representative to the AAHPERD Board of Governors.
"(Templeton) has endeavored to promote health, fitness, and safety in the two communities in which she has lived by serving on the Red Cross board of directors, judging and coaching gymnastics, and serving on the state and local youth soccer associations," an AHPERD news release said. "She has led the South Carolina Governor's Council on Physical Fitness as chair for the past five years and is currently the Elementary Level Assessment Director for the South Carolina Physical Education Assessment Program."
According to the membership organizatoin, the Honor Award recognizes meritorious contributions on the part of members of the Alliance in the two membership categories "college and university" and "non-college and university." Recipients are persons of personal integrity who exemplify the spirit of devoted service to the professions and who have, by their leadership and industry, made an outstanding and noteworthy contribution to the advancement of health, physical education, recreation, or dance. "
Templeton has been at The Citadel since 1989 teaching courses that lead to a physical education teaching certification for undergraduates and MAT students.
