Michael Hendrix

M. Patrick Hendrix is a professor in the Department of Intelligence Analysis and Security Studies at The Citadel Military College. He holds a Ph.D from the University of Stellenbosh in South Africa where he studied American national security policy and Sub-Saharan African History. His dissertation focuses on the alliance between the United States and the Republic of South Africa in rolling back communism in southern Africa during the Ronald Reagan and P.W. Botha administrations. He also holds master’s degrees from Winthrop University and The Citadel Military College.

For the past six years, Pat Hendrix served as the Assistant Director of The Citadel’s Student Success Center, managing the Writing Lab, Supplemental Instruction, and Subject Area Tutoring. He has also worked as a historian and archaeologist for public and private clients, including the Department of Defense, Army Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service, Exxon Mobile and Verizon. As an archaeologist, he worked on prehistoric, protohistoric and historic sites in 32 states, the Caribbean and South Africa. His manuscripts include Murder and Mayhem in the Holy CityDown and Dirty: Archaeology of the South Carolina Lowcountry and The History of Fort Sumter: Building a Civil War Landmark.
