BB&T executive named School of Business Alumnus of the Year
William R. Klich, state president of BB&T in Florida, has been selected Alumnus of the Year by The Citadel School of Business Administration.
The award will be presented on Nov. 6 during Homecoming activities at The Citadel. Alumnus of the Year honors a Citadel graduate who has enjoyed success and made significant contributions to the community through the principles of integrity, fairness and concern for others, as well as the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge to promote enlightened changes in society.
Klich graduated from The Citadel in 1966 with a degree in business administration. He was commissioned in the Air Force where he served until 1970. Klich received his MBA from Georgia State University in 1972 and graduated from the Colgate Darden Graduate Business School Executive Program at the University of Virginia in 1979.
“Bill is representative of the many successful Citadel business school graduates who demonstrate the qualities of a principled leader,” said Ronald Green, dean of the School of Business Administration. “He has been instrumental in our growth as a business school, serving on our current advisory board since its inception. His prominent position with BB&T and his service this year as chairman of the Florida Bankers’ Association speaks volumes about his professionalism and dedication to his career.”
After the Air Force, Klich held various positions at banks across the Southeast, including First National Bank of Atlanta, now Wachovia Bank; Southeast Bank, N.A. Miami, Coast Bank, which was later acquired by Sun Trust; and Republic Bank. Klich joined BB&T in 2004.
Klich has served the boards of the United Way of Greater Tampa, the United Way of Sarasota, the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Pinellas County, and presently serves on the Board of Trustees for The Florida House in Washington, D.C. and as chairman of The Florida Bankers Association.
