The Citadel to go red for Homecoming 2010
Trade in your Citadel blue for some Big Red.

The Citadel and Johnson Hagood Stadium are going red for Homecoming 2010 in honor of the return Big Red, the palmetto flag that many believe was carried by Citadel cadets who fired on the Union supply ship Star of the West in 1861. The flag is on loan from the State Historical Society of Iowa.
“Get the Red Out” is an homage to Big Red. Alumni and football fans are encouraged to wear red, that's right, red, not blue ,to the Homecoming football game against Elon University.
"The idea behind the recovery of Big Red is to remind people of the deep devotion to duty, honor, and country possessed by Citadel alumni and The Citadel family," said Alumni Association Director Mike Rogers. "Service to a cause greater than one’s self is engrained in most graduates and Big Red is a reminder of the core values taught throughout The Citadel’s history."
