Bon fire, pep rally cancelled but other homecoming activities are a go
The Citadel’s annual Homecoming bon fire and pep rally tonight has been cancelled due to expected inclement weather. However, all other Homecoming Weekend 2010 activities will go on as planned.
Friday's events begin with the Alumni Association luncheon which is open to anyone. Cost is $10. Also on Friday the Cadet Chorale will perform at the annual Alumni Memorial Services in Summerall Chapel. That will be followed by the Memorial Twilight Parade at 5:10 p.m.
The Homecoming theme this year is “Get the Red Out” and everyone is encouraged to wear red to the Saturday, Nov. 6 homecoming game against Elon University.
The theme is in honor of Big Red, the spirit flag of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. The Civil War era flag believed to have flown over Morris Island when cadets fired on the Union supply ship the Star of the West was found in an Iowa museum and is on loan to The Citadel until 2014. Big Red is on display in the lobby of the Holliday Alumni Center.
Before the game, the campus will be abuzz with activity, including a performance by the 2011 Summerall Guards, wrestling tournament and the 11 a.m. dress parade in honor of all Citadel alumni. The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes will perform during halftime of the game. They will showcase the set performed this past summer at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, an month-long international festival of music and entertainment by military organizations from around the world.
