Lt. Colonel Lori Hicklin, Ph.D.

With sadness, the Citadel family announces the loss of Dr. Lori Hicklin, who passed away on Thursday afternoon, December 28th. Dr. Hicklin served as a faculty member in the Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Science for the past 10 years. She was also currently serving as Department Head.

Dr. Hicklin had a passion for teaching physical education. She began her career teaching in the public schools at the elementary and high school levels before pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina. She was also a leader in this field, having served as President of the S.C. Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and as President of the S.C. Association of Physical Education and Sport. Dr. Hicklin previously served as an Associate Editor of the journal Teaching Elementary Physical Education.

She is survived by her mother Clara and her brothers Dean, Gary, and Mike, two labradoodles (Bo and Buddy) and two cats (Shooby and Vinnie). Dr. Lori Hicklin’s funeral will take place at The Citadel Summerall Chapel on Wednesday, January 3rd at 11 am.
