Nonfiction Paper Submission Form


Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit original (not previously published), nonfiction papers, which were written for any course at The Citadel. Papers should be formatted in Microsoft Word and submitted on this page.

Please include the following for consideration:

  • Nonfiction paper
  • Abstract of paper (What's an abstract?)
  • Biography of author(s)
  • Signed Publishing Contract (Click to download)
    • Selection Criteria

      All submissions are reviewed by the current editors for clarity, depth, originality, organization, and writing.

      Accepted Papers and Final Process

      Authors will be notified if their submission has been accepted or not. Following tentative acceptance, editors will provide each author with suggestions for revising the paper. The author will then revise the paper and re-submit it by sending it to gsj@citadel.edu. The editors will then make final modifications following final approval.

Sample Biography
John A. Doe, a sophomore from Syracuse, NY, is a corporal in Alpha Company. John is double majoring in French and History. He has earned Gold Stars twice and Dean's List three times. He is secretary of Toastmasters International. He is a member of the Rod and Gun Club, the Gospel Choir, and St. Alban's Chapel. John plans to attend law school in the future and to practice international law thereafter.

Abstract

The abstract will appear both in the printed journal and on the GSJ website. An abstract is a summary, a synopsis of the paper. It should include the thesis statement, supporting evidence, and the concluding statement. The abstract should be no more than 100 words.

Sample Abstract
This essay describes the life of two famous painters of the Wild West, Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell, and the influences on their artistic styles. The essay also compares and contrasts the Wild West depicted in their paintings with one another and historical accounts of the time period. The essay ends with a discussion of the influence of their paintings on the Wild West depicted in Western novels.
