2002 graduate elected to the college’s governing board

Dylan W. Goff will join The Citadel Board of Visitors effective July 1. He replaces William E. Jenkinson III who retired in June after 18 years on the college’s governing board.

Dylan Goff

Goff graduated from The Citadel in 2002 with a degree in history. He was a member of F Company as cadet. Goff went on to graduate in 2007 from the University of South Carolina School of Law and is currently an associate attorney at James E. Smith Jr. P.A. in Columbia, S.C.

A captain in the Army National Guard, Goff is currently the commander of D 1-118th Infantry (CAB). From February 2007 until May 2008, he was deployed as an embedded advisor to the Afghan National Police Forces in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Action Badge.

Goff was elected to the Board of Visitors this spring by the South Carolina General Assembly. His term is for six years.

The Citadel Board of Visitors is composed of 11 graduates of the college: seven elected by joint vote of the South Carolina General Assembly, three elected by The Citadel Alumni Association and one appointed by the governor. All members serve six-year terms. All elected terms begin on the first day of July and end on the last day of June.

Stephen Tobias
Jenkinson, an attorney from Kingstree, S.C., served three consecutive terms on the Board of Visitors beginning in 1992. He served as vice chairman from 1997 to 2001 and as chairman from 2002 to 2006. Jenkinson is a 1968 Citadel graduate and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1971.

Also, joining the Board of Visitors effective July 1 is Stephen C. Tobias, retired vice chairman and chief operating officer of Norfolk Southern Corp. A member of the Class of 1967, Tobias is chairman of The Citadel Foundation and a non-voting member of the Board of Visitors.

Tobias, of Garnett, S.C., has been a foundation director since 2004, serving as chairman of the Investment Committee and member of the Development and Executive committees. As chairman of the "Campaign for The Citadel" Steering Committee, Tobias was instrumental in the success of The Citadel Foundation's $100 million capital campaign, which exceeded its goal by nearly $8 million.
