Former Congressman Buyer provides contribution to Barrett-Buyer Scholarship fund
Former U.S. Representative Steve Buyer (R-Ind.) recently presented the Citadel Republican Society with a $10,000 check for the Barrett-Buyer Scholarship fund. Since 2009 the scholarship has recognized a Citacel Republican Society cadet each year who distinguishes himself or herself through selfless service and commitment to the club and to the conservative cause.
"The CRS is deeply honored by Congressman Buyer’s generous gift," said the group's President, Cadet Ethan Kindwall. "We were honored to have Congressman Buyer speak to the club about his experiences as a cadet and about issues currently affecting our country. His contribution to our club will enable us to continue rewarding those who are going the extra mile to promote conservative values."
Congresssman Buyer is a 1980 graduate of the Citadel, who in 2009 partnered with 1983 Citadel graduate, Congressman Gresham Barrett (R-SC), to found the Barrett-Buyer scholarship.
The Citadel Republican Society, the one of the largest (300+) clubs on campus, brings prominent conservative speakers to its weekly campus meetings, facilitates volunteer cadet participation in local, state, and national campaigns, and supports cadets in pursuit of internships in politics.
