Executive Institute to offer certified bookkeeping class
This fall, The Citadel Executive Institute and The Citadel College of Graduate and Professional Studies will offer certification courses and subject-specific short courses designed for people who need a quick and targeted approach to gaining skills and career-enhancing knowledge.
The first certification class will allow professional bookkeepers to earn the Certified Bookkeeper (CB) credential from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB). The course is open to bookkeepers with at least two years work experience. Certification, which is granted after successfully completing three written exams, verifies bookkeepers can handle all the books through the adjusted trial balance for a company of up to 100 employees.
Two classes will be offered this fall. A weekly program meets each Thursday beginning Oct. 6 and concluding March 9. An alternate course is offered on weekends beginning Saturday, Oct. 22 and concluding Feb. 19. Cost is $1,595. The registration deadline is Oct. 1.
Accounting Professor Sheila Foster will teach the class. She is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Radford University. She joined the Citadel faculty in 1992 and is currently the Decision Sciences Division Chair and director of the MBA program. Her areas of expertise include financial and managerial accounting, auditing, ethics in accounting, and fraud accounting. She has published articles in "Accounting Education," "The CPA Journal," and "The Acquisitions Librarian."
