Kathryn Hansen

Associate Professor

Kathryn Strong Hansen, on leave for the 2015-2016 academic year, is The Citadel’s specialist in eighteenth-century British literature. Additionally, she writes about children's and young adult literature from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries.

Professor Hansen’s current manuscript examines heroines in young adult fiction from eighteenth-century publication of fairy tales to Suzanne Collins' recent trilogy The Hunger Games.  The project explores the ways in which fairy tale tropes impact fictional young women and their employment of clothing.

She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Southern California and also holds an M.A. and B.A. from the University of North Texas. Professor Hansen also earned a secondary level teaching certificate and is an associate director of the Lowcountry Writing Project, the local chapter of the National Writing Project that supports K-12 teachers.
