Kathryn Hansen

Assistant Professor

Kathryn Strong Hansen is The Citadel’s specialist in eighteenth-century British literature. Additionally, she directs the Master of Arts in Teaching and undergraduate internship programs for the English department.

Professor Hansen’s research projects include the links between women’s dress and the perceived respectability of the novel in eighteenth-century Britain as well as how the trope of transformation relates to gender in young adult literature from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries.

She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Southern California and also holds an M.A. and B.A. from the University of North Texas. Professor Hansen also earned a secondary level teaching certificate and is an associate director of the Lowcountry Writing Project, the local chapter of the National Writing Project that supports K-12 teachers.
