Two members of The Citadel faculty were honored Oct. 6 at the American Society of Civil Engineers state meeting in Greenville, S.C.
Dennis J. Fallon, dean of the School of Engineering, received the 2005-2006 State Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award recognizing his career in the field as an outstanding civil engineer working for a federal, state, or local government service in South Carolina.
Timothy W. Mays, assistant professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering, received the 2005-2006 Technical Merit Award for significant contributions to the profession of civil engineering in engineering education and for the seismic design and retrofit of the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, S.C.
Mays worked with Davis & Floyd, Inc. in Charleston, S.C., on the project, providing technical expertise based on his research in earthquake engineering and structural design. The project serves as the first application of steel plate shear walls used to retrofit a steel framed building with concrete shear walls in South Carolina.
