Rosalin Speed named Employee of the Year

Rosalin Speed of Financial Services was honored April 16, 2010, as The Citadel’s 2010 Employee of the Year. The award recognizes a staff member who has served the college and the community in an exceptional manner.

Rosalin Speed of Financial Services was honored April 16, 2010, as The Citadel’s 2010 Employee of the Year. The award recognizes a staff member who has served the college and the community in an exceptional manner. She is pictured with Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa.

Speed joined The Citadel staff in August 2000. She currently serves as the accounts payable supervisor. She was honored at the Friday military dress parade where she took review alongside Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa and this year's retirees.

Speed was credited with invaluable service during implementation of Banner, the new student records system, across all campus departments. Speed went above and beyond to develop a training program so that employees could learn the complete system.In addition Speed designed and tested Banner operations and found more efficient ways of improving the system. She was lauded in particular for her professionalism with fellow employees and outside vendors and for providing patient encouragement to other employees as they learned to use the Banner system. Many times, Speed gave of her own time to help the college and other staff members.

In the community Speed is a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and an active member of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World, which supports senior citizen centers in the tri-county area with donations of food, personal hygiene supplies and service hours.

Along with a plaque and certificate, Speed will receive $1,500, hotel accommodations in Asheville, N.C., and tickets to the Biltmore House, season Bulldog football tickets compliments of Citadel Athletics, a gift package from Auxiliary Services valued at $150 and a reserved parking space to use for the next year.

Employee of the Year runners up are Barbara Pike in the Associate Provost Office and Jerry McEntire in the Physical Plant.

Also during Friday’s military dress parade, members of The Citadel staff and faculty who will retire this year were honored for their years of service. They are:

  • Claudia Shenton, 25 years in Financial Aid and Scholarships
  • Ronald Green, 23 years in Facilities and Engineering
  • Henrietta Bennikin, 21 years in Auxiiary Services
  • Diana Shoaf, nine years as treasurer
  • Bill Fulmer, seven years as auditor
