Soo Joung Kim, Ph.D.

Visiting Assistant Professor

Soo-Joung Kim received her B.A. in English Education from Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea. While she was pursuing her M.Ed. in English Education at the Graduate School of Education at Korea University, she also worked as an English teacher in a public middle school in Seoul, South Korea. She received her M.Ed. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language at the State University of New York at Buffalo and her Ph.D. in Literacy Education at the University of Maine.

She is currently working as a visiting assistant professor in the Zucker Family School of Education, The Citadel. Her current research and teaching interests are family literacy practice of culturally diverse students, language and literacy development of English language learners, multicultural literacy in elementary and secondary school settings, language acquisition and emergent literacy of young children, content area literacy, and literacy development of at-risk readers.
