Dr. Silver received his PhD in Economics from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1983. He has taught Economics and related business subjects at Bentley College and VMI and currently is Professor of Business Administration at The Citadel. He serves as the director of the MBA international business concentration, which was recently added to The Citadel program.

In addition to his regular teaching responsibilities, Dr. Silver was a Fulbright visiting professor of economics in Cameroon (1994-95) and adjunct instructor of finance in Webster University's MBA program in Shanghai (fall 2002) and adjunct instructor in operation management in Chengdu, Sichuan, China in 2009.

Dr. Silver's fields of interest are macroeconomic policy, international business, international finance, and economic forecasting. He is very interested in current economic and business developments in China and has written two articles, one of which was published recently.

He has published in economics journals including the Journal of Political Economy, the Southern Economic Journal, the Journal of Financial Transformation, and the International Journal of Production Research. He also co-authored a book on the use of the internet in international business. He is currently completing a text, Introduction to Business Statistics that will be published in spring 2014. 

In addition to his teaching experience, Dr. Silver served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya (1966-68), as a UNDP Programme Officer in Chad (1972-74), and economic consultant to USAID in the Khmer Republic (1974-75) and Burundi (1988). He is fluent in French and Spanish and near fluent in Chinese.

Dr. Silver has also conducted two study abroad trips to Costa Rica, once in 1997 with 66 undergraduate students and the second in 2003 with twenty MBA students. The latter trip was originally planned for China, but, due to the SARS epidemic, had to be diverted at the last moment to Costa Rica.
