Sheila Foster, PhD

Dr. Sheila Foster is an Emeritus Professor of Accounting. During her tenure, she taught Introduction to Financial Accounting, Introduction to Managerial Accounting and Accounting for Executives. In addition, Dr. Foster served as the MBA Director and the Director of Global Experiences for the Baker School of Business, expanding and developing graduate experiences and study-away procedures for graduate and undergraduate students. She led student study-away courses to Costa Rica, Egypt, England, France, Italy, Ireland and Spain. She was chosen MBA Professor of the Year for 2010.

Dr. Foster has written two textbooks - (B-2-B)2 Financial Accounting and (B-2-B)2 Managerial Accounting, and continues to write publications and proceedings for professional journals. Many of these publications have been co-authored with other Baker School of Business faculty including Cindy Bolt, Dr. Al Lovvorn, Dr. Frank Morris, Dr. William Sharbrough, Dr. Susan Simmons and Dr. Bruce Strauch. Within the community, Dr. Foster served as treasurer and member of the board of directors for the Garrett Academy of Technology Apprenticeship “GATE” House Project from 1996 – 2008. This pilot project taught practical hands-on skills to high school students through the construction of low-cost housing on the high school campus. She has also taught financial literacy classes for individuals who have been incarcerated and are seeking to reenter the working community.

Before accepting a position with The Citadel School of Business, Dr. Foster taught at Lynchburg College in Virginia and was a teaching assistant at Virginia Tech. She was associated with a number of companies including serving as director for EniroSafety Group, Inc. (formerly Chesapeake Industrial Services, Inc.) and Central Virginia Laboratories and Consultants, Inc. She also served as controller for Central Virginia Laboratories and Consultants, Inc. Dr. Foster earned a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; both a post-baccalaureate in Accounting and a Master of Education with a concentration in Guidance and Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University; and a BS in Elementary Education from Radford College in Virginia . Dr. Foster is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Virginia and a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Dr. Foster is the mother of two sons and grandmother of two grandsons. She is a member of the Northbridge Baptist Church. Dr. Foster enjoys doing needlework in her spare time and traveling whenever possible in order to bring the foreign experience to the classroom.
