Patricia P. McArver, MA

Patricia McArver teaches professional communications in The Citadel School of Business and serves as Director of The Citadel's Oral Communication Lab. She joined The Citadel ten years ago to work within marketing and communications at the college. She served as Vice President for Communications from 2002-2007, a period when The Citadel received national attention multiple times including designation by Newsweek magazine as one of America's hottest colleges. In addition to her teaching, Ms. McArver is the advisor to El Cid Toastdawgs, The Citadel's Toastmasters club. She has been a guest lecturer on social media and crisis communications and served as moderator for a workshop on online education at the Southeast Decision Sciences Institute in the Spring of 2009. She is currently a member of the campus web committee and is a former chair of the Campus Human Affairs Committee and the Gender and Minority Equity subcommittee for the NCAA Recertification. She is also a member of Kappa Tau Alpha, an honor society for journalism and mass communications. McArver spent the early years of her career as a journalist, winning multiple awards for her work as a radio news reporter and a community newspaper editor. She then worked in marketing for a national insurance restoration franchise and at a boys' college preparatory school before coming to The Citadel.
