MAJ Liz Washington Arnold, PhD (CPA-NJ)

Dr. Liz Washington Arnold is an Associate Professor of Accounting with The Citadel School of Business, teaching accounting courses in the graduate and undergraduate business programs. She currently teaches introductory financial accounting to graduate and undergraduate students and Intermediate Financial Accounting I and II and Advanced Accounting to Accounting Concentration undergraduate students.

Dr. Arnold joined The Citadel faculty in August of 2005. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Arnold worked over 20 years as a manager in financial and managerial accounting. Her many years in accounting and other areas of corporate management have provided first-hand knowledge of business financial stakeholders and their relationships as well as a theoretical and operational knowledge of the intricacies of the accounting and its related regulatory environment. Her knowledge of these environments helps enhance her teaching and service to students and the community. Her prior work experiences include various accounting positions at Boeing, AT&T and Lucent Technologies (now Alcatel). Dr. Arnold's prior academic experience was as an instructor at both Rutgers' University and New Jersey Institute of Technologies.

She is published in a variety of research journals with regular research publications and presentations at international, national and regional conferences. Her research interests include corporate malfeasance and restatements, accounting ethics and specific business reporting topics.

Dr. Arnold is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), the New Jersey Society of CPAs, The South Carolina Association of CPAs, the American Accounting Association and other academic organizations. She is still a licensed CPA in the state of New Jersey. She has been inducted into various honor societies including Delta Mu Delta and Beta Gamma Sigma. She is involved in various professional and community service activities including the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and Charleston Development Academy’s Finance Committee.

Dr. Arnold earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA; received her MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in East Rutherford, NJ; and was awarded her PHD from Rutgers University in Newark, NJ.
