MAJ Tracy Rishel, PhD

Tracy Rishel began her career with The Citadel in 2015 as an Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management, teaching both operations and supply chain management courses. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Business Logistics, and her Ph.D. in Business (Operations Management) from the Pennsylvania State University.

Tracy has published her research in journals such as The Coastal Business Journal, Journal of Business Logistics, New York Economic Review, and The Sport Journal among others. She has also presented her research at national and regional conferences. The focus of Tracy’s research includes the use of statistics and quantitative methods to evaluate sports performance and lean manufacturing and basic statistics pedagogy.

Prior to joining The Citadel, Tracy taught at Wake Forest University, Susquehanna University, and the University of North Carolina-Wilmington in the areas of operations and supply chain management and quantitative analysis. In addition, Tracy had the opportunity to teach as a visiting professor at the University of Wollongong in Wollongong, Australia. Prior experience in industry includes consulting with manufacturing firms in the areas of data analysis and ERP system selection and implementation, she also developed the master production schedule and managed inventory and out-of-stocks for a consumer products manufacturer. Tracy also served as a production line supervisor, responsible for product quality and process efficiency while supervising a group of unionized production line workers.

In her spare time, Tracy enjoys working with a Continental Tire road racing team on data acquisition and evaluation as well as fuel mileage consumption. Traveling is of keen interest, especially when the destination is someplace other than a race track; and in her downtime Tracy likes to hang out with her basset hound, Clarence.
