We had a very productive meeting November 1st of the School of Business Board of Advisors. One highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Jay Puchir, Accounting Manager, on revenues and direct and overhead costs by each of our degree programs (cadet, evening undergraduate, and graduate). This is the first time we have seen this kind of financial information, which will be invaluable for planning purposes. As you might imagine, his presentation set off a lively discussion about how to allocate overhead, which was very interesting.
Also on the agenda for the Board meeting was our Professional Pathways concept. We had presentations on each Pathway, some of which included cadets. Of course, the Board was thrilled with this. I asked the Board members to pick a Pathway that they felt they could support with the first step being to form a steering committee to provide guidance. I am so excited about the Professional Pathways, which were designed well before I got here and which we are now rolling out. The concept is a group of courses specific to each Pathway, but it also includes discipline-specific mentoring, clubs, networking trips, competitions, scholarships, internships, and, ultimately, placement. This concept is similar to a traditional major, but it’s wrapped up in an experiential package. We are well underway with initiating each of these components and we’re signing up students. The Business major of today is looking a whole lot different from the Business major of the past!
Many thanks to the Board of Advisors who have supported us all along the way and, of course, to our incredibly hard working faculty and staff.
I hope all enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving before we move into that final push of the semester before the winter break.
