Ashley Wellman

Dr. Wellman earned her PhD in Criminology, Law and Society from University of Florida. Her dissertation "Breaking the Ice: Understanding the Experiences of Cold Case Homicide Survivors" included 24 in-depth interviews with the families of unsolved homicide victims. Using grounded theory, Wellman explains the complications, struggles, hopes and triumphs of these survivors. Wellman seeks to provide a voice to these often forgotten individuals and highlights a need for future policies and programs to acknowledge this unique group of victims.

In addition to her PhD, Dr. Wellman earned a certificate in forensic death investigation from the school of pharmacy at the University of Florida. Throughout her graduate career, she assisted cold case homicide detectives in reviewing unsolved murder cases. She worked to create case-specific action plans, conducted suspect interviews, met with surviving family members and developed an evaluation plan for the cold case unit.

Dr. Wellman's areas of specialization include homicide, victimology, forensic death investigation and qualitative methods.
