Ed Lugo

Mr. Edwin (Ed) Lugo is currently a Visiting Professor of Criminal Justice at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

Mr. Lugo had a long career with the United States Secret Service which began in 1985. During his tenure he was recognized as “Having coordinated the most effective anti-counterfeiting effort in the history of the Secret Service”. Career assignments included duty on the Presidential Protective Detail and Resident Agent in Charge in Mexico City, Mexico and Bogota, Colombia. He ended his tenure with the Federal Government in 2007, as the Special Agent in Charge of the Secret Service Office in Baltimore, Maryland.

He received several investigative and service awards throughout his career but he is most fond of the “Cruz de Simon Bolivar” (Cross of Simon Bolivar) awarded to him by the Colombian House of Representatives for his effort in bringing to justice several of the most prolific counterfeiters in history. He is also the recipient of the “Reconocimiento de PFP” (Recognition Award)presented to him by the “Policia Federal Preventiva” of Mexico for being instrumental in the establishment of the first “Electronic Crime Task Force” in the country of Mexico. He has been credited with the arrest of over 300 criminals in 10 different countries and enjoys specializing in scientific investigative solutions for all those committed to public service.

Mr. Lugo is the author of, Aviation Security: Quantifying Risk and the Precious Price of Air Travel, Stevenson University Forensics Journal, Scholarly Review, Volume 2, 2011 (Research focus is the measurement of risk, quantifying tangible and non-tangible costs when applying science to security). He also authored and published an investigative manual “Incautacion de Evidencia Electronica” written for investigators of Spanish speaking Nations interested in the field of electronic crime.

Investigations and training initiatives conducted by Mr. Lugo have covered Computer Crime Investigations, counterfeiting, Financial Fraud, Money Laundering, Terrorism Finance, Intellectual Property Theft, Network Intrusions, Forensic Photography, Threat Assessment, Crisis Management, Emergency Response, Executive Protection and Law Enforcement Leadership.

A native of the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan area, he is a graduate of Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. where he earned a Master of Science in Forensic Studies (Investigative Track) achieving a 3.917/4.0 cumulative average.
