Citadel Graduate College 2012 honorary degree recipient

The Citadel Board of Visitors presented an honorary degree to Jonathon Michael Zucker, the speaker at the May 5, 2012 commencement exercises for The Citadel Graduate College.  The honorary degree is the highest honor the college can bestow.

The honorary degree citation reads as follows:

Jonathan M. Zucker
Jonathan Michael Zucker is a talented business leader who is helping bring opportunities to the Lowcountry through his work as president of The InterTech Group, Inc.  Because of his company’s efforts in economic development, hundreds of people in this region have the possibility of jobs and careers that were only a dream just a few years ago.

Last year, officials throughout the Lowcountry celebrated the announcement that The InterTech Group would bring an aerospace manufacturer and about 350 jobs to North Charleston.  The InterTech Group – recently listed by Forbes magazine as the 110th largest privately held company in the United States – has a portfolio that includes such diverse sectors as aerospace, real estate, manufacturing, financial services and entertainment. The South Carolina 100 lists The InterTech Group as the state’s second largest privately held company.

Mr. Zucker is also president of Z-Man Fishing Products Inc., a manufacturer of premier fishing equipment. This company has the notable distinction of opening more retail space in a one-year period, in such stores as Wal-Mart and Dick’s Sporting Goods, than any other manufacturer of fishing products. Mr. Zucker has also provided consulting services to such well-known companies as CSS International, Nortel Networks, and Blackbaud.

As one who believes in giving back to his community, Mr. Zucker has served on the boards of the South Carolina Aquarium, the MUSC Foundation for Research Development, the South Carolina Research Authority, and the Charleston Animal Society.  He is the founder and chairman of the South Carolina-Israel Collaboration.

Mr. Zucker received his Masters of Business Administration with highest honors from The Citadel Graduate College in 2006. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Management and Information Systems with high honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

In recognition of his business leadership and community service, The Citadel Board of Visitors is proud to present Jonathan Michael Zucker with the honorary degree of Doctor of Commerce.
