Special Events for Selected Groups

*These events are for selected graduates and their families and are by invitation only.

Thursday, MAY 7

Noon The Citadel Alumni Association Life Membership Ceremony*

New Life Members in the Class of 2015 and their families will gather at the Holliday Alumni Center, 69 Hagood Ave., two blocks from campus. Invitation only.

  • Place: Holliday Alumni Center
  • Approx. Running Time: 1 ½ hours
  • Suggested Dress: Casual for invited guests; full dress with waistplate or sash (no hats) for cadets.
  • Special Information: Families that purchased a Life Membership in The Citadel Alumni Association for their sons or daughters will receive invitations for up to four (4) people (including the cadet) to this event. A casual BBQ lunch will be held for invitees and the new life members. The cadets will be presented life member plaques by the CAA president at approximately 12:30 p.m.

6:00 p.m. Honors Program Dinner*
Certificates will be presented to Honors Program graduating seniors.

  • Place: Regimental Commanders Riverview Room
  • Approx. Running Time: 2 hours
  • Special Information: This is a special dinner for Honors Program participants and their parents.

7 p.m. CGC Awards Ceremony*

  • Place: Johnson Hagood Stadium, Club Level
  • Approx. Running Time: 2 hours
  • Suggested Dress: Business Casual
  • Arrival: All guests are asked to be seated 15 minutes prior to the ceremony.
  • Parking: Parking is available by Johnson Hagood Stadium.
  • Special Information: This event is to recognize outstanding graduate, evening undergraduate, and Veteran students.  It is open to award recipients and their guests.

Friday, MAY 8

Military Commissioning Ceremonies
8:00-9:30 a.m. - Army
10:00-11:30 a.m. - Air Force
12:00-1:30 p.m. – Navy/Marine

  • Place: Summerall Chapel
  • Approx. Running Time: As noted
  • Suggested Arrival: All guests are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start.
  • Suggested Parking: Once on-campus parking areas fill, campus parking will be limited to handicapped vehicles. Most visitors will be directed by Public Safety to park near Johnson Hagood Stadium and then walk to Summerall Chapel.
  • Graduates and Participants: Commissionees, in service uniform, will be instructed where to assemble.
  • Special Information: These ceremonies are for graduates being commissioned into the Armed Forces and their families. A "swearing-in" ceremony for all branches will take place Saturday morning during commencement exercises. Please, no flash photography or artificial lighting inside the chapel.

1:45 p.m. Alumni Parents/Grandparents Briefing*
This briefing is for alumni parents and grandparents presenting diplomas at the cadet commencement

  • Place: McAlister Field House
  • Approx. Running Time: 30 minutes
  • Suggested Dress: Coat and tie for gentlemen (be prepared for photos immediately following the briefing)
  • Suggested Arrival: Alumni parents/grandparents are asked to arrive no later than 1:35 p.m. in McAlister Field House.
  • Special Information: Alumni parents/grandparents who will be presenting diplomas to their sons or daughters will meet with the associate provost for academic affairs for special instructions. Information will include a walk-through of the presentations on the stage and details on where to meet, park and when to arrive Saturday morning.

2:15 p.m. Legacy Photos*
Immediately after the briefing for alumni parents/grandparents and their cadet graduates our photographer will take individual diploma presentation photos for the Alumni News magazine, family photos and the Legacy Photo of all alumni and graduates.

  • Place: McAlister Field House
  • Approx. Running Time: 45 minutes
  • Suggested Dress: Coat and tie for gentlemen; full dress with waistplate or sash (no hats) for cadets.
  • Special Information: Immediately following the briefing for alumni parents/grandparents, individual diploma presentation photos for the Alumni News magazine will begin. Family photos may also be taken at this time. Families are asked to wait in the fieldhouse lobby until the conclusion of the parents/grandparents briefing.  

Saturday, MAY 9

2:00 p.m. Graduate College Legacy Photos and Alumni Parent Briefing*
Alumni parents and graduates will have their photographs taken. The briefing is for alumni parents presenting diplomas at the CGC commencement.

  • Place: McAlister Field House
  • Approx. Running Time: 30 minutes
  • Suggested Dress: Coat and tie for fathers; dress or business suit for mothers; cap and gown for graduate.
  • Special Information: Family photos may also be taken at this time as well as the legacy group photo of alumni parents and their graduating sons/daughters. Information about seating and presenting the diplomas during the ceremony will also be provided.

5:00 p.m. Reception for CGC graduates and their guests hosted by Lt. Gen. and Mrs. John W. Rosa

  • Place: Deas Hall
  • Approx. Running Time: 1 hour
  • Special Information: CGC graduates and their families are invited to a special reception hosted by the President and First Lady in Deas Hall, which is located on the north side of McAlister Field House.
