1. Is there designated seating for visitors with disabilities?

Handicapped seating at commencement exercises will be in a designated area on the main floor of McAlister Field House. For questions or information about handicapped seating at the Corps of Cadets commencement, please call the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities at 843-953-6877.

For The Citadel Graduate College Commencement handicapped seating, call 843-953-5089. On-campus handicapped parking will be available for all events.

4. Do I need tickets?

Tickets are not required for admission to The Citadel Graduate College commencement on Sunday, May 5.

Admission tickets are required for Corps of Cadets. Adults as well as children and babies must have a ticket for admittance to McAlister Field House on Saturday morning, May 4. Each cadet will receive eight (8) general admission seating tickets, which will be distributed by Cadet Activities April 1-12. For more information about availability of tickets, click here.

December graduates and fifth-year seniors living off campus must contact Ruthie Ward in Cadet Activities for tickets.

Candidates who need additional tickets must contact Ruthie Ward in Cadet Activities. Only cadets can request additional tickets.

mcalister field house seating chart2NEW FOR 2013: No reserved seating for the Corps of Cadets commencement. General admission seating will be available in the bleacher area on a first-come, first-serve basis. Doors to McAlister will open at 7:30 a.m. Doors will close at 8:50 a.m. for the processional. Doors will not reopen until after the national anthem and invocation.

Graduation is a special occasion for everyone and we know that all guests are anxious to see their cadet take part in the ceremony. Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis. Please ensure that your entire group arrives at the same time if you wish to sit together. Out of respect and fairness to all visitors, you will not be allowed to hold seats for those who do not enter the field house with your group.


5. What time do graduates need to be there?

Graduating cadets will gather in Deas Hall no later than 8 a.m. Saturday, May 4 for lineup. Alumni fathers presenting diplomas to their sons or daughters will be lined up in the rear hallway of McAlister Field House. Families and other guests must arrive and be seated PRIOR TO THE PROCESSIONAL. Those not seated by 8:50 a.m. must wait until the conclusion of the processional and invocation before being seated.

CGC students will gather in Deas Hall no later than 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4 for robing and lineup.


6. How long does the ceremony usually last?

The Corps of Cadets commencement will last approximately 3 hours.

The Citadel Graduate College commencement will last about 1 ½ hours.


7. Who is speaking at the cadet commencement this year? Who is speaking at CGC commencement?

8. What can we bring into the field house for commencement?

For the Corps of Cadets commencement all guests, including small children, must have tickets to enter the field house. Tickets are not required for admission to The Citadel Graduate College commencement.

For both commencement exercises: No boxes, alcohol, weapons, firecrackers, noise makers, umbrellas, beverage containers of any sort, backpacks, large handbags, coolers, thermoses or similar items will be allowed in the field house. Food and drink are prohibited. Cameras and video cameras are permitted, however, guests will not be permitted on the floor of the field house during commencement exercises.


9. Who should I contact to order graduation announcements?

You may order invitations through Balfour Graduation Announcements online. Please note an invitation or announcement cannot be used for admission to the Corps of Cadets commencement.

10. Can I take photos?

The Citadel External Affairs Office has contracted with a professional photographer to take color pictures of each individual during Friday's military commissioning ceremonies and each individual receiving a diploma at both the Corps of Cadets and Citadel Graduate College commencement exercises. Families are asked not to come forward to take family snapshots or video during the commencement exercises.
