The Willson Ring has been awarded annually since 1911 to a senior elected by his or her peers as the finest, purest and most courteous member of the class. Willson, who was a Citadel student until 1862 when he left to join the Confederate Army, established the award to honor the most popular student among his or her peers.
Cadet Vallejo served as the regimental religious officer during his senior year and was a member of the First Battalion ministry team. He was inducted into the Order of the Engineer and was the recent co-recipient of the Thomas E. Hemmingway Award. The award is given to the senior who throughout his or her cadet career made the greatest contribution as a Christian cadet on the athletic field and to the spiritual life of the Corps of Cadets. It is named for Marine Corps Lt. Col. Thomas E. Hemingway, Class of 1960.
Vallejo was a member of The Citadel track team where he was named the Outstanding Competitor as a sophomore, earned all-conference honors six times, and named to the South Conference Academic Honor Roll twice.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oren Cesar Vallejo of Goose Creek, S.C.
