Even before he graduated from The Citadel in 2003, Clay Middleton had immersed himself in politics, working for Congressman Jim Clyburn in South Carolina’s 6th Congressional District.

These days Middleton is working for presidential candidate Barack Obama in South Carolina.

Middleton will share his experience on the Obama campaign trail and with Clyburn, the third highest ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 in Buyer Auditorium in Mark Clark Hall. He is the guest of the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice. The event is free and open to the public.

Middleton is a native of Charleston, S.C. He graduated from Burke High School and received his degree in political science in 2003. He completed a tour of duty in Iraq as a signals officer where he received the Bronze Star Medal. Prior to being a field organizer with the South Carolina Democratic Party, Middleton was a caseworker for Clyburn’s Charleston office.
