Class of 2009 matriculates

The Class of 2009 reported for academic orientation and military training on Saturday, Aug. 13. The 673 students who reported came from an application pool of 2,054 young people, the fourth highest application group in the last 20 years.

The class has 625 men and 48 women. That includes 66 athletes who reported to campus on Aug. 1. Freshmen are expected to make up about 35 percent of the estimated 2,000-member South Carolina Corps of Cadets this fall.
