Circling the globe with Ambassador Armitage

Former ambassador and U.S. deputy secretary of state, Richard L. Armitage, spoke to a rapt audience during a Greater Issues address on Oct. 26, in McAlister Field House on The Citadel campus. A compelling speaker, Armitage continues to be engaged in a range of global business and public policy endeavors and is a frequent speaker and writer. Before he left public service, Armitage directed U.S. aid to the new independent states of the former Soviet Union.

The fourteen member Junior Sword Arch (JSA) represents their class in a performance honoring the senior class (2011). The JSA have performed since 1931 with only minor changes to their execution. Their distinctive bicycling motion is unique to the unit in that it does not exist in any other military slow march.

Historic snapshot...a rare gift of riveting memoirs

On October 19, The Citadel proudly received several hundred pages comprising the memoirs of 1915 Citadel graduate Roy Carter Hilton. The papers recount his experiences as a POW for 42 months during World War II. Lt GenJohn Rosa, president of The Citadel, reviews some of the work with Hilton's daughter Laura Stearns. A survivor of the Bataan Death March, Mr. Hilton's accounts are likely the only first hand reports on record.
