Bookstore hosts signing event for tactical training instructor
Author Chuck Habermehl will sign copies of his book “Combat Proven Tactics; Small Unit Urban Warfare” (2008) and “Depictions: Poems about Warriors and War” (2011) from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 20 at The Citadel Bookstore in Mark Clark Hall.
A graduate of the University of Miami, Habermehl is a decorated Vietnam Veteran and president of CQB-Close Quarters Battle, Inc., with more than 35 years as a tactical training instructor in Close Quarters fighting. A former U.S/ Marine and decorated Vietnam Veteran, Habermehl served with the Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, assigned to an Army advisory team.
While in the Marines, besides his field duties, Habermehl held positions of rifle range instructor, tactics and fitness instructor and managed a Marine Corps Gym facility. In addition, he was meritoriously promoted 3 times, was recipient of the "Marine of the Quarter" award, and was a runner-up for the prestigious "Marine of the Year" award.
Habermehl's law enforcement career spans 25 years, achieving the rank of Assistant Chief of an active urban jurisdiction, managing all police operations including Narcotics, K-9, Patrol, SWAT, Aviation, Investigations, and Training. As a SWAT commander, he oversaw the successful resolution of hundreds of high-risk situations. His team may be the only police unit to have participated in several successful missions outside the United States. Habermehl's training attracts participants from all over the world. His narcotics unit was involved with protracted investigations leading to the seizures of millions of dollars and thousands of pounds of illegal substances throughout the US, South America and the Caribbean.
Habermehl has studied numerous fighting systems including Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Tang Soo Do, Judo, Wrestling, Chin-Na and others. He spent 10 years as a police academy senior defensive tactics instructor at the Southeast Florida Institute of Criminal Justice in Dade County, Florida.
