BSB Mentors

The BSB Mentor Association

Mission: To make available to juniors and seniors in the School of Business a mentor whose background and experiences match the students' interests, needs and career objectives. Supporting the mentees' transition from barracks and/or academic life to becoming successful in their future endeavors is a major focus. The goal is for the mentor and mentee to develop a meaningful relationship so that each feels comfortable in discussing any topic they choose that will better prepare the mentee to deal with today's issues and tomorrow's challenges.

In 2002, several of the BSB Faculty members realized that students were leaving The Citadel with degrees but many were unprepared for what lie ahead. Too many of The Citadel's, "best and brightest," were accepting positions far below their capabilities. What also came as a surprise to many of the faculty and staff was the fact that the opportunities for providing the tools the students needed were right here on campus. Thus, the Mentor Association began with the idea that each business major or MBA student could have a mentor who could help them navigate the process of finding a job, a place to live, planning their financial future and even teaching them socialization skills. In the past nine years, hundreds of students and mentors participated in the program, and both have reaped the benefits.
