Annual career engineering fair brings in 21 companies
The Citadel School of Engineering hosted the 7th Annual Professional Activities Event (PAE) Feb. 2 in the Holliday Alumni Center. The event serves as a career fair for graduating seniors in electrical and civil engineering and professional networking forum for underclass students to gain knowledge of engineering career opportunities through interaction with practicing professionals.
“We enjoyed participating in this event, which provided a great setting for our staff to discuss full-time engineering employment or summer internships with students,” said Rick Day of Stantec Consultants, Inc. “Our experience has shown Citadel students to be extremely well prepared in engineering fundamentals with an outstanding work ethic.”
Senior cadet leaders Chris Geary, Timothy Quinn, Ryan Northcutt, and Chad Bonner worked with company representatives, faculty and college officials to organize the event. Students made presentations to professional societies, contacted company representatives, published a student resume book, and encouraged all undergraduate engineering students to participate in the event. More than 200 civil and electrical engineering students attended.
“Interacting with practicing engineers and company representatives really helped me improve my networking skills,” said Cadet Chris Geary. “It was a challenge to coordinate such an important event.”
Plans for next year’s event tentatively scheduled for the fall semester are already underway. More information regarding the annual Citadel School of Engineering PAE is available online. The 2012 PAE was sponsored by 21 companies, including:
