Cadets to open CNN’s GOP presidential debate tonight
Citadel cadets will be among those helping kick off the start of the CNN GOP presidential debate tonight in North Charleston.
A cadet color guard will take part and 12 members of the Cadet Chorale will sing the National Anthem when the debate gets under way on CNN tonight.
Founded in 1976, the Cadet Chorale is the official touring choir for The Citadel. Members are selected by competitive audition usually in the fall of their freshman year. They perform music of all types, including patriotic, sacred, popular, and classical music, as well as novelty and show tunes.
The Chorale has performed for audiences all over the East Coast including the Charlotte Hornets, the Detroit Tigers, The Miss USA Pageant, Good Morning America on ABC, former president Ronald Reagan, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, Gen. Colin Powell, former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev, Ted Turner, and the U.S. Army Reserve Command in Las Vegas.
The Chorale is under the direction of Nancy Lefter, director of choral music at The Citadel and is accompanied on organ by Mark Bebensee, associate provost for academic affairs.
