Tragic accident kills three cadets

Three Citadel cadets enroute to Florida to attend the Citadel vs. FSU football game were involved in a single car accident that killed two of them at the scene. The third died a week later on Sept. 17 at the Medical University of South Carolina.

The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 on Interstate 95 in Dorchester County. A tire on the SUV the cadets were traveling in blew out causing a loss of control.

Killed were Brett Mitchell Warren of Lima Company and Clarke Gibert Russell of Charlie Company. Blake Alexander Campbell of Romeo Company died Saturday, Sept. 17 from injuries sustained in the accident.

All three were sophomore business administration majors from Simpsonville, S.C.

Funeral services were last week for Cadets Warren and Russell. Funeral services for Campbell will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 at First Baptist Church of Simpsonville. A closed casket viewing will be at 1 p.m. at the church. There will be no visitation.

Graveside services will be at Cannon Memorial Park immediately following the funeral.

A campus memorial service was held Sept. 20 in honor of Russell and Warren. A memorial service to remember Campbell is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Summerall Chapel.
