2010 Bulldog Challenge raises $12,152 for leadership fund

The 2010 running of The Citadel’s Bulldog Challenge raised $12,152 in memory of Marine Capt. Warren A. Frank, Citadel Class of 2004.

Frank was killed in Iraq in November 2008 while delivering humanitarian aid. He is one of 15 Citadel graduates to have died in the line of duty since the war began.

The money raised from this year’s race will go into a fund to pay for leadership development opportunities for cadets and active duty military students. A check with this year’s Bulldog Challenge proceeds was delivered to The Citadel Foundation today.

“With these proceeds we will have taken the first steps in establishing this very important leadership fund,” said Col. Paul B. Dunahoe, commanding officer of the Naval ROTC unit at The Citadel. “Capt. Frank epitomizes The Citadel’s definition of a principled leader and embodies all of the virtues, and characteristics, and honor our country expects of its Marines. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country and we feel his inspirational leadership should be honored through this program.”

“We hope be able to accomplish many great initiatives to include sending cadets to leadership symposiums, sponsoring guest lecturers, and possibly one day building a leadership reaction course in his honor aboard the campus,” Dunahoe said.

Sponsored by the Naval ROTC unit and Citadel Marines, the Bulldog Challenge is a six-mile endurance race course and one of the Lowcountry's premier fitness events and fundraisers.
This year’s race, which was held in March, fielded more than 550 competitors from military and civilian organizations, colleges, universities, law enforcement and the general public from around the nation.

The overall winner was Team Old Dominion from the Hampton Roads NROTC Consortium. The top military/ROTC team was "The Yankees," a group of midshipman and active duty Marines from The Citadel.

The 15th Annual Bulldog Challenge will be held in March 2011.

Gifts may still be made in memory of Frank to support the Bulldog Challenge. Visit The Citadel Foundation to contribute.
