In the Rick and Mary Lee Bastin Financial Leadership Lab students and faculty have access to a wide range of datafeeds and analytical tools. The lab is equipped with 28 student terminals and 1 instructor terminal. All terminals have two, 19-inch monitors and feature powerful processors. In addition to software available in other labs, the Bastin Lab also provides access to the following list of specialized software.

Morningstar Direct

Morningstar Direct (global.morningstar.com/direct/) is an investment analysis platform that provides access to all Morningstar data and institutional research as well as private and third-party content. Students can access global databases of company fundamentals, mutual funds, ETFs, funds of funds as well as hedge funds. Morningstar direct (through quotespeed) provides real-time access to stocks, options, futures and commodities data. It also includes rigorous portfolio analysis and performance attribution tools. Students have the chance to get a certification from Morningstar after demonstrating their ability to use the platform.

William O'Neil Direct Access (WONDA)

William O'Neil Direct Access (http://www.williamoneil.com/) is an online portal that offers access to global database of around 70,000 stocks and funds in more than 70 countries. Students can access and analyze fundamental financial and technical data, stock reports, mutual fund holdings and performance as well as First Call analyst estimates. WONDA Vantage the Excel Add-in for WONDA makes it possible to bring all available data points into an Excel spreadsheet and build dynamic financial models.

Oracle Crystal Ball

Oracle Crystal Ball is an Excel Add-in that extends the capabilities of spreadsheet models built in Microsoft Excel.

It is the leading application used in the industry for Risk Analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, optimization and forecasting. Oracle Crystal Ball is used extensively in the Financial Modeling (BADM 430 and BADM 753) classes as we as in the Production and Operations Management (BADM 410) class.

Bloomberg Terminal

The Bloomberg terminal (http://www.bloomberg.com/professional/) is the most comprehensive online service for global financial information and news available. It offers unparallel access to news data and analytics and it used by the majority of institutions worldwide. Students can also use the Bloomberg terminal in the lab to become certified in using the terminal and improve their job hunting prospects.

 

Thompson Reuters Datastream

Datastream (http://online.thomsonreuters.com/datastream/) allows access to a wide range of macro and cross asset financial databases as well as extremely powerful charting tools. It has full real-time access to world news and to one of the most comprehensive historical data and news archives available.

 

StockTrak

StockTrak (http://www.stocktrak.com/) is a stock market simulation where students can create and manage virtual portfolios and trade in real-time stocks, options, futures, bonds, mutual funds, future options and foreign exchange in over 25 global exchanges. Portfolio management competitions can run for a period of up to 5 years.
