Congressman to receive Palmetto Patriot award
Lt. Gov. André Bauer will award Congressman Gresham Barrett the Palmetto Patriot Award during halftime of the homecoming football game Saturday when The Citadel plays Elon University. Kickoff for the game is at 2 pm.
Barrett, a 1983 Citadel graduate from Westminster, S.C., has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2003. Before that he served in the S.C. House of Representatives for six years and the U.S. Army for four years.
“The citizens of South Carolina’s Third Congressional District, and likewise all South Carolinians and Americans too, have much to be proud of in Congressman Barrett’s service to them,” Bauer said. “Gresham has been—and will continue to be—a warrior for the conservative cause, and I am proud to call him my friend.”
The Palmetto Patriot Award, established by Bauer, is given in recognition of outstanding public service to the people and the state of South Carolina. The award is the highest the lieutenant governor can bestow.
