“America’s Band” in 2015: The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes

Proudly representing the US before the world at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The only U.S. military college band to ever be invited to the exclusive Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will return to Edinburgh, Scotland, in July of 2015, with the help of supporters. The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes will again be the only U.S. band appearing on the medieval castle stage for the month-long festival of music, pageantry and demonstrations by military organizations from around the world. Broadcast to 30 countries and approximately 100 million people annually, it is the largest production of its kind in the world.

The 2015 festival runs from Aug. 7 to 29, at Edinburgh Castle. This is the third time The Citadel’s band and pipes have represented the U.S. after receiving the coveted invitation in 1991, 2010 and again for 2015. The Citadel was the first military college invited to Edinburgh and is the only one ever invited since.

The Citadel is a four-year, public college in historic Charleston, South Carolina. The Citadel offers a classic military college education for young men and women that is profoundly focused on leadership and academic excellence. Graduates are not required to serve in the military but about 35 percent of each graduating class commission as officers representing every branch of U.S. military service. Many graduates of The Citadel have served the nation, their state and their community with distinction since the college was founded in 1842.
